Ideas on how to Virtually Connect during the Festive Season
Published in blogs by Clare Davy, 22nd December 2020
Many of us have family and friends living abroad, and due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are unable to reunite over the festive season. Maintaining social connections is essential for our wellbeing, so we need to find creative solutions to feel connected to friends and family. We will also need to make the most of technology to connect over this period.
Here are some tips for virtual connection during the festive season.
Christmas crafting – meet via Zoom and get the kids making DIY Christmas ornaments.
Game night – choose a family-friendly game you can play online together – for example, charades or trivia.
Christmas story hour – ask grandparents to read stories to their grandchildren via videoconferencing.
Family meal – share a menu that everyone needs to prepare and enjoy.
Virtual carolling – practise some Christmas carols and sing together online.
Virtual trivia – meet via Zoom and host a trivia night.
Online wine tasting –many organisations now facilitate online wine tasting, whiskey tasting and so on. This is a great way to connect and have fun with your friends while learning something new.
Skribble– is a drawing game on Zoom. Make it a competition and start sketching!
Teleparty – is the new way to watch TV with your friends online. Teleparty synchronises video playback, and there is the option to add group chat to Netflix, Disney, Hulu and HBO. This is free and available on Chrome browsers.
Online games – There a vast array of games you can now play online, for example, Pictionary, Heads Up, Cluedo or Mario Cart.
Have a safe and happy festive season!
